We are located in the heart of Ruffin, NC only 35 minutes from Greensboro and less than 10 minutes from downtown Danville, VA, making it easy for you to stop by and pick up some fresh mushrooms on your way home from work or on a weekend outing.
As the crisp days of fall approach, Live Well Community Farms is excited to offer a delectable array of seasonal mushrooms cultivated on our expanded wild oak log farm. Beginning in August 2024, savor the rich flavors and unique textures of our gourmet mushrooms, perfect for enhancing your culinary creations.
Renowned for their savory, umami-rich taste and meaty texture, our Shiitake mushrooms are cultivated to perfection. Ideal for stir-fries, soups, and sauces, they add depth and a gourmet touch to any dish.
With their unique, shaggy appearance and delicate, seafood-like flavor, Lion’s Mane mushrooms are both a culinary and nutritional delight. Known for their potential cognitive benefits, they are perfect sautéed, grilled, or used as a meat substitute in vegetarian dishes.
These mushrooms boast a rich, earthy flavor and a slightly crunchy texture. Chestnut mushrooms are versatile and can be enjoyed in a variety of dishes, from pasta and risotto to hearty stews and casseroles.
Savor the sweet, mild flavor and delicate texture of homegrown mushrooms. Grow them indoors or outdoors with little effort and no mess using our hand-cut hardwood log, which is inoculated with spores that produce a crop of shitake, lions mane or chestnut mushrooms every two to three months, for up to two or three years. Simply soak the log in water to start the growing process, and you’ll be ready to harvest in just a few weeks. Use your fresh-picked mushrooms to add delicious flavor to omelets,
Logs are hand-cut and inoculated with oyster mushroom spores in visible drill holes that are covered in cheese wax. Logs can be stood upright or laid horizontally for growing. Metal plaque on underside of log states date of inoculation. Fruiting occurs approximately sixteen weeks from inoculation. You can start the growing process and enjoy your first crop within a few weeks of delivery. Just soak the log for 24 hours in cold water, mist it occasionally, and watch your crop emerge. 12" long, approx. 3"–6" diam. 4–7 lb.
